Prague’s annual Krampus Show brought the mythical Krampus creatures to life. Krampus traditionally accompanies St. Nicholas to visit children. While St. Nicholas rewards the well-behaved, Krampus punishes those who have been naughty.

We attended the family show where the Krampus are released from 4pm and scare the kids (just a little) while St. Nicholas offered sweets.

Later, the night show ramped up the horror for teens and adults.

Krampus is believed to have originated in Germany and/or Austria. The German word ‘krampen’, means ‘claw’. Czechs have a similar tradition where Mikuláš (St. Nicholas) is accompanied by an angel (anděl) and several devils (čerti).
