The hard-packed sand on Daytona Beach makes driving on the beach possible, even in a regular two-wheel drive car. Many years ago it was free, now it’s $20.

Beach access points can be found along Florida’s Atlantic Highway, otherwise known as A1A, in the heart of Daytona Beach. Cars are permitted in designated areas of the beach from sunrise to sunset, tidal conditions permitting.

The entry fee of $20 is paid at the access ramp toll booth. That allows all day beach driving and parking, with one exit and re-entry – so you can leave for lunch and return. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to sit on Daytona beach while vehicles drive by, but they do and the beach was busy when we visited.
