CottoCrudo is an Italian restaurant situated within the Four Season’s Hotel in Prague. Our high expectations reflected the prices.
There are only two tables by a window with a view to St. Nicholas Church and Prague Castle. If you want the money shot then call ahead and ask for one of those.
Our dinner was November 23rd 2023 (Thanksgiving Day in the US) and there was a special menu for that evening.
The restaurant was quite busy – mostly Americans celebrating the day.
A glass of Chianti Classico was an exorbitant 450 Kč. It was a decent wine, but definitely not worth the price.
Two tasty amuse bouches were presented.
Two types of bread (focaccia and soda) were delivered, together with an absolutely amazing olive oil. The focaccia was especially good.
The Scallop ‘In The Shell’ En croûte with Vermouth Cream, Swiss Chard and Black Truffle was delicious, but also one of those ‘chef too far’ dishes. I half expected the scallop to be in pastry, but instead, ii was the entire shell. I’d be interested to hear from chefs, if baking scallops in the shell has any benefit, as I suspect it’s just a novelty, especially as the shell has to be opened before baking. We couldn’t taste the truffle.
Roast Turkey Roulade with Stuffed Cheese Pumpkin and Traditional Giblet Gravy – the star of the show was the stuffed pumpkin, which was full of delicious stuffing.
The pudding was listed as Pecan Pie. The CottoCrudo version was a layered chocolate and cream affair, decorated with a couple of pecans. I would honestly have preferred a traditional pecan pie.
All of the staff were friendly and professional.
To visit the bathroom, you need to exit into the lobby and take the stairs down one floor. The bathrooms were, as you would expect, immaculate.
Had we paid for this dinner (we didn’t and that’s a long story), the price per person would have been 1850 Kč plus drinks and tips. That price is similar to other fine-dining restaurants in the centre of Prague. However, I don’t think the chefs at CottoCrudo did enough to elevate the Thanksgiving menu – it may be perhaps because this is an Italian restaurant and this isn’t the food they want to cook.
There are plenty of restaurants in Prague where you eat better and for less – there’s no need to visit CottoCrudo.
