Santa Pola lies twenty kilometres south of Alicante – it’s quieter than its neighbour. Los Curros is a place where locals go to eat fresh fish.
Fishing is still important here and there is a row of small huts along the harbour, each selling an amazing selection.
Just a few steps from the huts is Los Curros.
Inside, locals stop by for a drink and tapas.
There are plenty of tables and another room upstairs.
A generous glass of excellent house red is €3.50. A 1.5l bottle of water €2.50.
The boiled potatoes with garlic are simple but amazing and well worth €5.00 – there were more, but we ate some before taking the photo.
The scallops at €2.50 each were tasty, but smaller than I expected.
The dorada was a perfectly-cooked piece of fresh fish (€14.00)
The star of show was ‘Pulpo a la gallega’, a giant potato cake filled with delicious octopus (€16.00).
If you visit Santa Pola, make Los Curros your first choice for lunch or dinner.
They only have a Facebook page, so I took a photo of the menu.
