Niku is one of three à la carte restaurants at the Lindian Village Beach Resort and offers a unusual fusion of Peruvian and Asian food. You’ll likely only dine there if you are a guest at the hotel.
As an all-inclusive guest, you are able to dine, once per week, at each of the three à la carte restaurants. After that, you need to pay the menu prices less 20%. We made reservations, via email, a few weeks before arriving at the hotel – the hotel ask that bookings are made at least two days in advance.
Every member of staff, here and throughout the entire hotel was friendly and professional.
The interior of Niku has a modern, Asian feel.
The menu is mostly Peruvian, with a few Japanese dishes.
The most ridiculous aspect (and this is true of all three of the à la carte restaurants at the Lindian Village) is that some items have an asterisk alongside. All-inclusive guests have to pay full price for these dishes and not just a supplement – who would do that? Worse still, the pricing is a mess. For example, the main course, Pollo a la Brasa (€36) is included, but the Salmon with Maple Syrup and Curry (€28) is not. Unique to Niku is that the side dishes are not included for all-inclusive guests – the entire system needs urgent overhaul.
Drinks aren’t an issue for all-inclusive guests; the house wine is a really good standard and bottled water is free.
We chose the Shrimps Tempura with tsuyu sauce and Japanese mayo, as a starter – it was delicious.
Next, we had Pollo a la Brasa, boneless chicken leg, mustard butter and jalapeño sauce – another excellent dish, although a side of patatas bravas (€12) would have been nice!
The churros were nice, but nothing special.
The matcha crème brûlée was a bit weird.
It’s a shame that there isn’t the flexibility to order, for example; two starters and no dessert, or even, just three starters.
My guess is that Niku started as Japanese, then they lost the Japanese chef, somehow had a Peruvian chef and tried to pivot to Peruvian-Asian fusion. They need to make up their minds next season and focus on one cuisine.
We enjoyed our visit to Niku, although we wouldn’t return until they fix both the menu and pricing concepts – we’d rather spend the evening in the buffet restaurant.
