Perched on top of Mount Benacantil at about 166 meters (544 feet), Castillo de Santa Bárbara offers stunning panoramic views. And the best part? There’s an elevator to the top and the walk back down is beautiful.
If you’re on the beach at Alicante, there is a walkway to the lift entrance – the curved white object in the far right of the picture below.
The small elevator takes you down to street level and the entrance to a long tunnel that takes you to the castle elevator.
Tickets are €2.70
Once at the top, the views are amazing. It’s also an interesting historic castle with plenty of rooms containing exhibitions.
You can take the elevator down, but the walk is lovely and takes you through Alicante old town.
The terrace of the fine-dining restaurant La Ereta is a perfect place to stop for a drink.
The path leads to the beautiful Santa Cruz quarter (old town).
