The Radisson Blu Plaza is a luxury hotel located on the outskirts of Ljubljana, but has a significant issue — the air conditioning is non-functional and the staff refuse to acknowledge the problem.
The following video shows a 14th Floor Executive Suite. It looks lovely, but imagine that the coolest room temperature, even at night in April, was 22°C.
The hotel website offers these directions:
These instructions are incorrect. Stara cerkev is 2km from the train station. The correct bus stop, Bavarski dvor is less than 600m from the train station. The stop outside the hotel is Bratislavska, not Nove Jarse.
Check in was very slow and there wasn’t a dedicated queue for Radisson VIP members. We booked a suite and that’s what we were allocated. To be fair, the hotel was at 100% occupancy for a one-night event.
Our room was really hot, easily 26°C. The air con wasn’t running as room keys are required in a slot to enable room power. We set the air con to 20°C, left one room key in the slot and headed straight to Ljubljana.
On our return, around 21.30, the room temperature wasn’t much less than we left. It was chilly outside, but none of the windows opened. I filled the bath with cold water in the hope that it would cool the room. Worse still, we could clearly hear the occupants of the room next door talking loudly until 1am.
Breakfast was very good and cooked to order items, such as eggs benedict were available.
I visited the front desk to complain about the room temperature and our neighbours. I’d also checked availability for the next three nights and an executive suite was available. As a Radisson VIP, a one-category upgrade isn’t much of an ask.
The first agent agreed and asked that I return a little after noon. We had a nice lunch in the lobby bar, although we would have preferred to be exploring Ljubljana.
Creamy vegetable soup € 8,70. Prices correct as of May 2025.
Burger with iceberg lettuce, tomato, pancetta, caramelized onion, cheddar cheese, egg, truffle mayonnaise, sweet potato fries with parmesan and thyme, sauce, onion rings. € 20.00.
On my return to the front desk, I was told the agent had left for the day. The next agent acted like I was making up the story about air con and noise in order to score a free upgrade. He said he would send the housekeeping supervisor to check the temperature in our suite. We went upstairs to pack as we decided to leave the hotel if not moved.
Finally, we were granted a move to the executive suite opposite our regular suite on the 14th floor. It wasn’t really any cooler, but being bigger it seemed less stuffy.
The suite was nicely appointed. Watch the video above to see everything.
The view was to an out-of-town shopping district. This view was actually better than our first as at least we could see the mountains.
We put on the air con and headed into Ljubljana. On our return, the room was still 22°C – this mainly because it was a cooler day and nothing to do with the air con. I, again, filled the bath with cold water. At least the view had improved.
The next two days were cooler weather and this seemed to help reduce the temperature, although we still slept without bed covers and always filled the bath with cold water.
We tried the bathrobes. These were ridiculously small – child size, The slippers were of really poor quality.
There is a gym on the 15th floor.
There is a 16th floor roof terrace, but not used – was really windy there.
Uber and Bolt don’t operate in Slovenia. The hotel use a taxi service called Elite +386 (0) 41 752 751 and our driver used a Mercedes. A ride into the centre €10.00. Airport €45.00. If you want to travel to the airport by bus, you’d need to take the bus to the train station, then take the bus to the airport – the same bus then goes on to Lake Bled. That will be less than €10.00 per person. Prices correct as of May 2025.
On checkout, I raised the subject of lack of air con. A nearby guest overheard and chimed in to say his room also had no air con. Cornered, the agent confessed that the hotel is aware of the issue and the entire system is due to be refurbished.
Until that happens – avoid this hotel.
