The Van der Valk Hotel Schiphol is an ideal off-airport location if you have an early flight. It’s also the most likely place you’ll be sent to by KLM if you’re flight is delayed or cancelled.

There are frequent buses between stops A9 – 13 at Schiphol Airport and the hotel. Ride takes about ten minutes. Note that the hotel has a bit of an identity crisis. The buses say ‘Van der Valk Hotel Schiphol’, whereas most hotel signage is simply ‘Hotel Schiphol’.
This was the timetable for June 2025.
I arrived late evening. Check in was fast as there were four staff manning the front desk and they had already received my details from KLM.
I explained that my checked luggage (held overnight until my flight at 16.00 next day) contained all my toiletries. They gave me a complimentary amenity pack, similar to what you receive on a KLM flight.
The deodorant was just a single-use moist tissue, the toothpaste tube was good for two, maybe three applications, but I was happy to at least have something.
The check-in desk agent advised that I’d missed dinner, but pizza was available. Breakfast was included and as my flight wasn’t until 16.00, I could have lunch as well.
The room was well-appointed and comfortable.
The TV had plenty of channels and, as is this is The Netherlands, most US shows were in English. There was a nicely-positioned safe. I would have liked some USB sockets.
I went for a walk around the hotel.
The bar was still busy with guests. There was a decent-sized swimming pool.
Opposite and across the car park, was a KFC and a casino – I didn’t visit either.
I arrived to breakfast just after ten. An excellent hotel breakfast buffet, only missing sparkling wine.
I visited the front desk and paid an extra €10 to extend my checkout until 13.00.
The 13.20 bus arrived on time and I was soon back in the airport.
I was worried where KLM would send me but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my stay. I’d probably book this hotel for a planned layover.
