Located at the highest point of the North York Moors National Park, the Lion Inn, on remote Blakey Ridge, dates back to the 16th Century.
Inside, you’ll find low-beamed ceilings, stone walls, good beer and food.
There are plenty of traditional real ales to choose from. We ordered everything at the bar and our food was delivered to our table. Prices correct as of August 2025.
Haggis, Black Pudding & Bacon with a Mustard & Whisky Sauce £9.50. Amazing.
A ‘Parmo’ – breaded chicken covered with white béchamel sauce and topped with cheddar cheese, with chips and garlic mayo £19.95. A perfect rendition of the classic dish.
The Parmo originated in Middlesbrough, Teesside and is now a beloved dish found across the North-East of England.
If you find yourselves wander the North Yorkshire moors and in need of food, drink or shelter, the Lion Inn is the perfect place for you.

PS: The Lion Inn wasn’t used as the Slaughtered Lamb pub featured in the classic 1981 movie American Werewolf in London. The exterior was actually a cottage located in Crickadarn, Wales and the interior scenes were filmed in the, now re-decorated, Black Swan, Old Lane, Martyrs Green in Surrey.
