The Story of Prague is an immersive museum that brings 800 years of the city’s history to life. Using augmented reality, film and interactive exhibits, it transforms Prague’s past into a vivid, unforgettable experience.
The museum occupies this building next to Charles Bridge.

And the entrance is in the passage that leads to Karlovy lázně tram stop.
To get the best experience, you need to download an app. The app is used to interact with the exhibits – you point your phone camera to a QR code and hear some information, or the image comes to life like this one:
The museum has wi-fi and so you can download the app there – we downloaded before visiting. The museum will lend you headphones – we brought our own.
There are three floors to visit: Medieval Prague, WW2 and Communism and post-Velvet Revolution. Our pictures are really just a glimpse of each floor and don’t show the interactive aspects.
Medieval Prague is a mixture of interactive images, some fun photo opportunities and an introduction to the grisly world of medieval torture.
Our favourite was a secret room, with stairs leading up to a chamber where the creature Golem lies sleeping.
WW2 and Communism details the bombing of Prague, Hitler’s visit, Operation Anthropoid, the Prague uprising and life under communism.
We liked this depiction of a barricaded window.
And the view to Smetanovo nábřeží was amazing.
A classic communist StB (Státní bezpečnost) office.
A classic communist police car. The VB stands for veřejná bezpečnost (public security).
The post-Velvet Revolution floor celebrated everything Czech; contact lenses, Baťa shoes, the crown jewels and wearing socks with sandals.
I was on the top floor before I realised the app had a camera button – I’d previously switched out of the app and into my camera. The app saves the picture with a ‘Story of Prague’ logo.
Another great view from the window.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Story or Prague Museum. We spent 1.5 hours there, but you could easily spend longer if you listened to/read every exhibit. Note that you’ll need to climb several flights of stairs, including those to Golem’s chamber.
You could survive without the app, but you’d miss out on the augmented reality exhibits – plus you’d need to read everything (EN & CZ) rather than listen (EN, CZ, DE, FR, IT & ES).
