Part museum, part Disney ride, Back in Time takes visitors on an immersive journey through the history of Prague and the Czech Republic.
Back in Time is located on the sixth floor of the Máj – House of Fun complex – that’s the building on Národní street with the Spitfire planes with flapping butterfly wings.
You should purchase a ticket in advance so you can choose English, Czech or German presentations. There are also headsets available for English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean and Chinese.
The entrance is just outside the elevator door.
There are lockers available for coats and bags.
You first enter a time travel control room, operated by two kids called B and T. These two kids appear in various places throughout the experience.
The door closes behind you and the adventure begins.
You then proceed through a series of themed rooms – new doors open and previous doors close behind you. Each room presents a period in Prague’s history using a mixture of theming, video effects, interactive games and animatronics.
It’s like a ride, except you walk through it.
One room is a 5D cinema, where we soared through history while the seats moved, buzzed and blew air at us.
The mirror portrait room celebrates all those who had an impact on Czech history.
It wasn’t busy when we visited. There’s a good chance that you could be the only people on your timed entrance and have the place to yourselves.
We really enjoyed our visit and I can imagine children would too. There isn’t any reading of exhibits, everything is presented in a fun way, while staying true to historical facts.
