Angkor Wat is one of the largest religious monuments ever constructed. Its name means ‘Buddhist Monastery in the city’. The silhouette of Angkor Wat appears on Cambodia’s national flag.

Angkor Wat is the best known and most visited of all of the temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park. We, like everyone else, had to visit and it is definitely impressive. However, we preferred all of the smaller temples – quieter, atmospheric and a feeling that the jungle is taking over.

As with all temples in the Angkor area, you’ll need to buy a pass from the official online store: https://www.angkorenterprise.gov.kh/en. There are other ways to purchase, but we decided this was the quickest and easiest.

We hired a Tuk-Tuk driver to take us to various temples over three days. We started late, after a delicious breakfast at our hotel: FCC Angkor. Then, returned early afternoon to relax by the pool. If you plan on spending the day at Angkor Wat, there are toilet facilities and food outlets with outdoor terraces within the temple complex. The restaurant prices were higher than the equivalent in Siem Reap.

We only visited Angkor Wat on one of the days as it’s takes 2.5 hours to look around. Return Tuk Tuk cost in February 2026 US$10.
